The holiday season is officially underway. Do you dread the holidays? What do you tell yourself about your weight during the holiday season? Are you prepared? What is your holiday plan?
For the next 6 weeks, this Big Girl is waging war. I am calling for the positive reinforcements to help survive the holidays. I don’t want this to be yet another year, wandering through the holidays, only to start over in the New Year. Do you?
For years, I have studied and practiced the art of positive affirmations, visualization, and changing my self-talk. This year, my goal is to use them to survive the holidays and keep the momentum going until the end of the year. While the word holiday means vacation, I am committed to work through the holidays.
What we say to ourselves has a major impact on our success. A starting point is to understand the definitions and then look at our own personal meaning of the words we use. I looked up the definitions of a few common words:
DIET - The Greek root of the word means a manner of living; it is defined as something provided or experienced repeatedly
HEALTHY - Enjoying health (freedom from disease and pain) and vigor in mind, body AND spirit.
WEIGHT - The relative importance or authority afforded something
LOSS - Destruction, ruin, the act of deprivation, decrease in magnitude
ATTITUDE - Mental position, emotion, or feeling regarding a fact
My plan of attack for the holidays: to focus on my health.
Enjoying the freedom from dis-ease in mind, body AND spirit.
My freedom comes with my choices. Ask yourself, will this provide me joy or dis-ease? Not just in the instant joy of food, but in the long term. I will experience joy in my choices repeatedly. I will decrease the magnitude of the relative importance I have placed around my weight.
By that I mean, how I deprive myself of joy and fun because of my weight and what I perceive others will say or think about me. What is important is what I say and think about myself.
My goals (Good Orderly Actions Leading to Success) are:
- Continue my Wii Fit program everyday; even if it is just for the 5 min Body Test.
- Utilize my Weight Watcher tools fully: (Plan, Record, Count points, and attend meetings)
- Focus on my choices
- Experience the joy by not holding myself back because of my weight.
Part of experiencing joy is conversations with family and friends.
Let’s start that conversation!
Let’s start that conversation!
What about you? How do you define some of the words you use to talk to yourself?
How do you view the holidays? What are some of your positive reinforcements?
Speak up. I want to hear from you. Help keep the momentum going.

Just call me "former Big Boy" – Every year about this time, I open up my blog and invite GUEST-POSTERS to contribute. I'm thinking this is something that will help BOTH of us and our blogs too! Let me know if you're interested! Happy ThanksG!
