One of my all time favorite quotes by Les Brown,
”Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss you will land in the Stars.”
That is a good approach to a healthy lifestyle and breaking away from Black and White thinking. You know the drill. That all or nothing “rule”. You put yourself on a rigid diet or exercise program. You do well motivating yourself for a few weeks, maybe even months. Then, life starts to take over. Shooting for the Moon for me is the whole lifestyle change.
It’s not just about the scale moving and being able to buy smaller clothes. That is just a couple of the stars that will be in my picture.
This morning, there is an article over at Spark People about thinking like a kid. Harnessing that sense of excitement and wonderment that we all adore at one time or another. Kids tend to live more in the moment. We can learn a lot by watching children. I write another blog that resonates more of my “spirit”.
We’re Not in Oz Anymore is how I use the Wizard of Oz scenes and characters to relate to my life and view it through the lens of a child. You know that prompt in the beginning, For those that are young IN heart.
That is the place that takes me out of my Black and White thinking. I believe that “Over the Rainbow” is the stars and the moon. The place where troubles melt like lemon drops and we learn to soar!
Affirmations are a good place ot start moving toward the rainbow. Changing our adult “responsibility and obligation” thinking into joyful, in the moment thinking. For example, take something you say to yourself often when you look in the mirror or at the scale. If it is negative or detrimental, change it. Make a new automatic response. Frame it, say it, write it, see it in the present moment.
One of my affirmations that I am currently working on came from what I say to myself when I look in the mirror. I am changing that thought to “I have the body of a pin-up girl.” My other affirmation is “I live a healthy lifestyle.”
As you start to change your thinking, you start to notice the changes. The immediate responses and choices you make. It takes a little time to get there, but it is so nice when you do.
Come back and see me tomorrow. I want to share with you a little more about changing those thoughts and moving toward your own healthy lifestyle that in black and white may look like it is out of your reach.
See you then!

Yes, this is true. Having a paradigm shift is important especially in trying to have a healthier self-image. We are the worst critics of ourselves so it's really a challenge to replace negative statements with positive ones.
