If something's not working, try a different route. That's the way to do it! I only learned that recently.

your point about accepting yourself not being equal to settling is a good one! i try to appreciate where i am now while still looking forward to where i might be in a few days, weeks, months - sometimes that helps me push through discouragement without getting too down on myself.

What a great post. There is so much pressure to be perfect and quite frequently that has made me give up on things I wanted. Now I"m trying to be content with good enough.

BTW- I gave you an award over at by blog. I love reading your posts everyday. Thanks for such wonderful insights!

I think part of it is just accepting where you are right now. Sometimes part of that is also acknowleding the need to change, and sometimes it really is being at peace knowing that you are doing the right things and eventually things will work out.

When I feel stuck I write down my goals so I can review where I've come from and what my ultimate goal is.

What a great post & YES to: I will accept the things I truly cannot change (like other people), look for the courage to change the things I can, but certainly seek the wisdom to know the difference between the two!

The one thing I continually try to do is get past the past failures that hold me up. Every week I do this & go over it. Sometimes I do better than others...

There's also something to be said for patience, which is what I think screws up most who are trying to lose. When I started losing weight, in the beginning when I was enthusiastic and busting butt at gym, it took about 3 months to lose the first 5 pounds. I don't know why, but this weight loss has not been even close to linear. But what else could I do? Go back to old lifestyle- I think not! As Diane said on Dr. Oz (she's so sensible, patience and persistence!

Think differently. Try harder. Right now, I'm in a really good mental place. But I've been in the "nothing's working" mindset before, especially during my plateau. I never gave up, I don't even really recall a time where I seriously contemplated giving up, but I do remember feeling hopeless when I was sticking to the plan and exercising my tail off. Making changes to my thought process has been crucial in my success. And even though I'm feeling really good right now with my most recent weigh-in and where things are headed, I can still work on my mindset. So when a negative thought creeps in, I can think differently - I can change that negative into a positive!
