Wednesday. Wishes and What If’s. Every year, at the end of June, I go back to review what I planned for myself for the current year. This was the year I pledged: I LIVE. So today’s wish from Jamie, What do you wish for your well being? fit right in to my What If’s that I plan for the rest of the year.
What IF….I stop using my weight as my roadblock? For way too many years, I used my weight as the reason why I couldn’t.
What IF…I trust what other people see in me? It has been SO HARD to trust to what other people see in me when all I see is the weight.
What IF…I followed my own advice.
Those are the wishes I have for my well being. My own advice, which I wrote at the beginning of this year… I Live! and I use R.E.A.L G.O.A.L.S.™ instead of SMART ones. You know…Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely. While these have been around for a long, long time, they never seemed to work to well for me. The biggest problem for me, Life does not happen in Jules time. That is what in the past propelled me to give up on my goals. It fed my failure monster. So, as I often do, I came up with my own.
R.E.A.L. G.O.A.L.S.™
- Reasonable
- Expectations
- Authentic
- Living
- Good
- Orderly
- Actions
- Leading to
- Success
Those are real goals. Those are what are best for my well being. SMART goals left me judging my life. R.E.A.L. G.O.A.L.S.™ let me live my life. That is a BIG difference.
What if you set R.E.A.L. G.O.A.L.S.™? What would they be? Tell me ONE thing that could make your goals REAL instead of just SMART?

As you wish for yourself, so I wish for you also.
As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her as well. I love your real goals. They definitely speak to me. Ok, the first real goal I am going to set is to walk at least 20 minutes everyday. That would be a real and doable goal.
LOVE your goals & that REAl GOALS thing! I have to start whether it be real goals or smart goals! My mind holds me back.. and past failures & fear of future failure…
Oh, my! An invitation to play? How fun! Okay, let me see. One real goal? Oh, I know – I will walk when the weather is beautiful (and the weather is always beautiful, isn’t it?) and do it for shear joy of the experience! Hey, this is fun! Jules, as you wish for yourself, I so lovingly wish for you also!
Girl you said it!! As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her also. LIVE IT!!
As Jules wishes for herself,so I also wish for her. Be bodacious!
Oh! One thing that I should do to make my goals more real? A real goal that I can do? Think before I speak … My somewhat odd sense of humor tends to make people think that I mean something different that what I really mean … mostly because of cultural differences which I would realize if I thought first and spoke after.
As Jules wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.
As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her as well!
I never told you how last week I took the WHAT IF into a Writing Session I was leading. LOVE the concept and am tremendously grateful….
Love, love, love the REALness I read here, Jules. (Fab name, too!)
As Jules wishes for herself, so I wish for her also!
Wish LOVE Wish LOVE Wish LOVE Wish!!
My Wishcast for this week…
LIVE!!! As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her as well
As Jules wishes for herself I wish for her also. Real Goals what a great idea…
i think if i let go of my fears and anxieties, my goals would be more attainable.
As Jules wishes for herself, so I wish also (RealGoals-Woot)
As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her also!
Oh hon….that is beautiful…I love it!! Sometimes we get so tied up in what people see..we forget that it isn’t important..it is all about how we feel about ourselves.. Love your goal and what ifs!! Hugs, Sarah
I swear that each week you speak directly to me or for me! Thank you! I love the REAL GOALS idea–SMART goals have never worked for me as I do seem to have a Ceanne-time that just doesn’t seem to keep pace with the rest of the world’s idea of time. Thank you, thank you!!
As Jules wishes for herself, I wish for her also.
A REAL goal for myself would be: Eat more vegetables!!
omg, what a coincidink. I was thinking the same thing lately. I pulled out my goals last night and looked them over again and made a couple changes/revisions for the rest of the year.
My new thing to remind myself is that I’m allowed to not be the best and the fastest all the time and I’m allowed to stumble in life without having to be ashamed of it. It’s our weaknesses that make us stronger, and more loveable as it turns out.
The whole the world doesn’t operate on Salina time is a big one for me too.
I get so impatient waiting for life to catch up to what I think it should be.
I absolutely adore your R.E.A.L G.O.A.L.S. I, too, have spent many years using my weight against myself. Thank you for writing about this!
As Jules wishes for herself, so I wish for her as well.
Oh, sorry for two comments, but I just thought of something else! I’d love to work with your REALGOALS more. Would it be okay if in the next couple of weeks I do a blog post about them and link back to you? Otherwise, I’ll just work with them in my journal.
A very good meditation…what if…okay..what IF I really did have time to write a sequel to my book or finish my screenplay? Time and money. Well, it looks as though that’s coming up soon with Jury duty: can’t schedule too many clients so days ahead to devote to writing. Thanks for the thought.
Those goals seem like something I could wrap my head around, you go girl!
