It’s time for the Sunday Weigh-in. A lot of mish-mosh and what’s on my mind PLUS what’s ahead for the week.
So the scale verdict this week: 253.8 The same as two weeks ago. The exact same.
Now for my scale related question…While I believe that it SHOULD be as simple as the math, Calories In…Calories Out….Sometimes it just doesn’t add up. How many of you get on the scale each day to “see” how you are doing? So, I started to look up a few things. It can take 24 to 72 hours to digest food. Depends on the type of food, vegetable, protein, carb, etc. Plus your body adjusts. We can’t forsee or even understand just how our body adjusts and how long it will take. The equation is calories in, what TYPE of calories, calories out, AND what you ate yesterday or how much you worked out yesterday MAY not move the scale right away. BUT DON’T GIVE UP.
We can’t take into the equation what our bodies do naturally to adjust to its OWN process. Just as we do emotionally. Weighing in, for me, on a daily basis, has me focused on the wrong thing. That scale could be giving me the results of what I ate in the beginning of the week, but I focus on that. And additionally, I have ignored a heck of a lot about my body for a long, long time, and I just have SO MUCH to learn. It has been doing its own thing for way too many years! When the focus is on the scale, it seems to drive the motivation of the day, but it won’t necessarily show up tomorrow. I can’t change the past, I can only focus on the OVERALL changes I need to make to keep moving forward.
My commitment for the next two weeks is to add walking or riding my stationary bike EVERY DAY. Not instead of, or in replacement for, but to ADD! And go from there.
Now onto a little attitude…and a little help from my friends…
Today, I am introducing the Bombshell Award! I love to get awards on my blog, (and I received the Life is Good award the other day from PJ’s and Pounds but I will answer a few of those questions later this week) Awards can make you feel GOOD. It is a small token of recognition for all your hard work that isn’t based on the SCALE!
As most of you have seen, I like to come up with my own rules and metaphors. So, what better way, than to create my own award. This is how I would like it to work. I want help from my blogger friends. I want YOU to tell me who should get the Bombshell Award. It’s about being BOLD, BEAUTIFUL, and being ALL about the Attitude! You nominate the person because of an ACTION. You tell me what comment, post, or tweet inspired you to nominate the person for this award. Email me and also tell me what Bombshell name should be bestowed upon them with this award. Please e-mail these award recommendations so we can keep it our little secret, OK?
So, I will start this out with not 1 but 2 Bombshell Awards…Ladies, you are welcome to display these on your sites, with your Bombshell name!
First, Wendy – the Local Cook Bombshell- Wendy and I are teaming up to exchange places a couple times a month. She will be popping over here to help me learn to cook and give me ideas for fresh and local cooking. Monday will be our first switch. Her award is for her attitude and why she started her blog……..you will see tomorrow….
Second, Salina – the Living Active Bombshell. Salina is SO full of determination and spunk that she MORE than deserves this award. Salina and I are most certainly kindred spirits but what creates the attitude in my mind is SHE actively tries a new exercise or activity to live out for each month. AND she lets her readers vote. That has been anything from Roller Derby to Yoga. Plus after seeing her Sexy Biatch Button I asked her to help me with the award and she JUMPED on the chance. She sent me the original plus a banner, but it was too small. So I changed it just a bit, but THANK YOU! I NEVER would have had this award.
AND there’s more. Salina has also agreed to do an exchange post a couple times a month in regards to exercise! I will keep you posted!
So my week will be FULL plus another guest post this week…. I will fill you in later….Maybe on What if Wednesday…So there you have it…Food, healthy alternatives to WHAT to do with the local food, active living with different activities to get you moving and yes, still my interjection of Big Girl Bombshell attitude! We can do this together!

Awesome post! You are so right about weigh ins. I’ve noticed that sometimes it takes an extra few days for a “good week” to show in the scale.
yay! Thanks so much for the award! I’m so excited to join you in this adventure. You know, I’ve been thinking I need to get back into biking, so I think I’m going to join you in your challenge. I’m going to try to bike or walk every day too.
My not-so-succinct thoughts on the scale. Hope you don’t mind a brother dropping a link…..

What a fun and bombshellicious idea:)
Now about that darn scale. Yep – I have also been learning and still am. My big moment came not long ago when I figured out that I cannot control the scale, I can only control my own actions. (Sometimes.)
Yeah for the blog award, how awesome and empowering!
I am excited that you will be adding stationary and/or walking to your routine. Every little bit helps when it comes to that number on that stupid scale.
I weigh EVERYDAY and let me tell you – I’m frustrated. I never thought that the number could be delayed by what TYPE of calories I am eating. It seems unfair in a way (really, I LOVE instant gratification) BUT such is life and a part of this crazy journey we are on is learning all about our bodies.
Here’s to us!
Calories In/Calories Out is simple math… they just forgot to tell you its an algebraic equation and you have to be a rocket scientist to fully understand it!
But it does work eventually.
I loved your post about the scale and then surfed over to Emergefit’s post–liked it too.
So thank you , created a new folder in favorites of good posts about the scale. No matter how rational and balanced and forgiving we our with ourselves about the scale, it always bites us in the butt once in a while. Then wham, back to a blithering and frowning mess. This litle scale folder will be my GO to for post scale comforting.
I do weigh each day first thing but I am aware after all these years that the scale goes up & down crazy with me & I know that even though I eat really well, lots of fiber, lots of water, my bod still digests things slower than normal so… I take it all with a grain of salt. I do pay attention but also how my clothes fit. If that scale keeps going up & not down after a few days, I know I need to change things!
Looking forward to the posts!
Just stopped in from Lady Bloggers Tea Party and so glad I did! Subing to your blog, love your attitude!
There are SO MANY factors that could be affecting your weigh in… Stress, sodium intake, cals in and out, etc. you get the picture. Roy has it right and he knows what he’s talking about, believe me. He recently helped me overcome a three month plateau.
For health reasons I changed much in my diet. My health has improved, my weight s-l-o-w-l-y eases d-o-w-n but for me, that’s okay for the first time in years of dieting to lose weight. My body adjusts around the new weight and doesn’t nary inch up even after a “bad” fall. Then a 1/2 pd drops like magic, before I know it. I agree Anonymous Fat Girl, so much to factor in for certain body types. Keep groovin’ Star-Girl!
You just ROCK!!!!!! One of the biggest trip ups that I’ve learned in the calories in/calories out equation is the sodium/artificial sweetner water retention factor!!! It can be heart breaking !!! LOL!!! Jules, I LOVE the idea behind your Bloggy Award!! I have someone in mind!! Going to find your email!! Hope it isnt too late!! Love your posts….and YOU!!!! *Hugs*
I like the idea of adding the bike or walk every day, because it is what I would have suggested lol!
In Julia Cameron’s book, The Vein of Gold, she recommendes a daily walk, not just for calorie burn by any means but for the holostic experience it gives you. I hope you have a nice place to walk. I think if everyone took a walk every day in nature, the world would be a happier place.
Ahhhh….Thanks so much for everything Jules. You seriously brought a freakin’ tear to my eye. I just love being a kindred spirit and I love that saying too. I posted your fabulous award with a nice little blurb that I hope does it justice. I prettied up Living Active too. Hopefully everyone will like the new facelift.
Big cyberhugs for you.
