In Search of Like-Minded People

It’s Timeline Tuesday…The day I reflect back on things important to me.   The most important thing, today, is blogging.  My blogging community. All the varied fans and writers and artists and dreamers and runners and readers and dieters and those that struggle to find themselves. The people that fulfill my quest and my journey to discover who I am!

My journey into the blogging world started way..way…way.. back when Prodigy was the “popular” thing.  That is how I got started.  A an awesomely wonderful friend, for whom I am eternally grateful, introduced me to computers and blues music.  I learned DOS through him AND his love and passion for Blues Music sent me to a Prodigy group to learn more.  My first introduction to finding “like-minded” people.

But the thing was, I didn’t know they were like minded when I joined.  I didn’t realize how much computers and blues music would become a part of my life.  THAT is what blogging helps you to find.  LIKE-MINDED people!

That concept use to confuse the heck out of me.  You see, I have had a LIFE coach off and on for oh about 10 years plus now..  I am not a slow learner, as I thought in the past, I am a curious girl who had absolutely NO idea who she was.  AND yes, I am still learning.  THAT is the exciting part.

Blogging is one of the #1 tools to find people who are like you.  WHY? because we are made up of so many interests and opinions and likes and dislikes that you can find a group with similar interests WHEREVER you turn. But there is a huge difference, in my opinion, between like minded in cyberspace and like minded in real world space.  Sometimes geography and responsibility play a huge part in NOT being able to find like-minded people.

That barrier is taken away within the blog world.  Go exploring.  You, too, will be amazed at what you find…This has been the answer to my long search for like-minded people.  I have such a HUGE eclectic circle of interests, I was often puzzled where to start.  Now, sometimes, it can be where to stop….

So, if you are just getting started in this journey or even feel there is something more that you may need to find, I have a few tips to go exploring.  These are just a few that I started with:

Blog to Lose:  This is a community of weight loss for support and companionship.  This was started by Roni, a #1 mentor in blogging and losing weight.

BookieBoo and Mamavation:  Changing Families – One Mom at a time is how Mamavation is described

Google Reader:  This is a tool to keep track of the blogs you like to read AND to search for new ones

Jamie Ridler and Wishcasting: This is where I started this last time around.  It is a supportive group of wishes and creativity

SparkPeople – Another community forum for weight loss and inspiration

I have found, through blogging, like-minded people in ALL areas of my life….NOT just weight loss or body image.  I have an eclectic group of blogs and can find a group to participate with no matter what my mood or what my interest is for that particular time.

Lastly, on this timeline, is a goal, a dream and a mission statement I created many years ago.  To help, encourage, and motivate others through my own example.  I have BIG dreams….BIG goals……to be a motivational speaker.  There I said it…I put it out to the universe…..

What I discovered along the way…was my VOICE and I am slowly but surely finding my OWN example FIRST…THAT is my foundation.

Anyone, absolutely ANYONE, who writes a blog………IS a motivational speaker!   Now, what about you?

What is your current goal, current dream?  What group of like-minded are you searching for TODAY…THIS moment?

I love your blog because you put yourself out there. You are writing for you and to honestly help others, not for an audience of sponsors. This that you wrote: “What I discovered along the way…was my VOICE and I am slowly but surely finding my OWN example FIRST…THAT is my foundation.” Love this Jules.

  2. True Jules. As I changed with a greater appreciation for who I am, like-minded companions showed to encourage and teach me how to be me more and support my goals. Thank you for a most insightful blog.

Funny how we came at this so differently. I knew very little about blogging when I started less than a year ago. No expectations, no realization that I’d find like minded people. What a fabulous surprise:)

  4. I’ve been trying to lose weight for several weeks. Pills, diets, programs… nothing worked! By the end I realized that I had to change my eating routine and sweat. I’m losing a lb a week by eating 500 calories less than I burn every day :-)

  5. Such a true post & the blog world is amazing in many ways!

I have a dream , many in fact, but we shall see….. :-)

  6. How amazing to have found your blog today of all days, when you are blogging about finding blogs. I post 6 days a week and so it’s where I spend most of my time but I really enjoy exploring the Internet past my little neighborhood to see what else is out there – and that’s how I found you! So glad I did, and have bookmarked you so that I can give your posts the attention they deserve :)

I feel like I know you through your words. Thank you for letting me into your life. I love it! And congratulations on hitting the big 200!! xo

We do tend to be afraid to voice our dreams, as if to voice them might jinx them somehow. I’m grateful to you for voicing yours and yes, you are already living it! Keep on allowing your voice to shout your dreams, Jules! Blessings and bravo!
