Sunday Worth It Sermon

   ahhh….

Sunday Worth It Sermon

Numbers since two weeks ago:

Weight   +5

Muscle   down 3%

Fat   up 1%

Numbers tell the story….  My snacking on movement wasn’t as consistent this week

This is after two weeks of birthday celebrations but also a whole lot of stress….  where I found myself not eating consistently  and not moving as much.  Tense and stress are running my body however, other than those numbers and the large amount of stress in some relationships, the rest of the things are moving along great.

I have a couple of volunteer opportunities that have come up this month that I am LOVING!  #1 is I am blogging for the non-profit that supports the rock and stroll…that is just starting out.  What an awesome feeling to use my writing to be of service.

The second is guiding two weekly online chats for BlogtoLose  — a community of weight loss bloggers started by Roni.  Our topic this past week was NSV – non scale victories.  Both were awesomely insightfuland gave way to some enlightened perspectives.  Some AHA moments, if you will.

And last night I received a reply to an email I had sent a few weeks back….Here is an excerpt of what I wrote orginally:

I have been a “member” since the inception of fitfluential but did not  believe enough in myself to feel, at my weight, I could influence anyone  to become fit when I was so overweight myself and society’s stereotypes  of obese people.

But you see, that is just the issue.  So many of us, defined medically  as morbidly obese, have gotten this way because of our lack of esteem  and confidence. We carry with us, the weight of what society deems as  lazy, unacceptable, and the brunt of many a haters attentions.

We sit inside our own four walls, longing to join the ranks of  “acceptable”.  We yearn to have muscles, sexy bodies, and yes, to fit  in. We long to wear fashions that can promote a confident, and yes, sexy  look, but mostly we yearn to fit into our own lives. To fit into what we  know of ourselves, our personalities, our loving hearts, our giving  personalities, are worth as human beings yet the perception of others  are to immediately shun us and tell us what we do wrong. We are not  “fit” to be accepted as we are.

Companies (and some people) do not want a spokesperson who doesn’t  “fit” their image of fit so we don’t even try.  But the reality is we,  unfortunately, fit into the growing numbers (based on a scale) of our  population. We fit into those that struggle the ridicule and humiliation  doing the simplest tasks.

I am proud to say, I have been accepted as a #fitfluential ambassador and I am just finishing up the paperwork portion.  I can continue to be a voice for those of us who are becoming fit and healthy even if the scale says different sometimes.

It has been an incredible month of non-scale victories and lots of forward movement to my word of “confidence” for 2012.  and honestly….that’s what my journey is truly about.  Learning to believe in myself, what I can do, and well…no more excuses!

How was your week?

  1. Congrats Jules!! Fitfluential embraces us all! I will say to your email person, even fit people don’t fit the mold too. I may have more muscle than they want or am not pretty enough or look good on camera enough…. there are so many ways that the media influences our esteem to tell us we are not good enough. Our challenge is to make sure we let them know we are good enough! Hard but I keep trying!

  2. Loretta says:

I am thrilled for you, to have been accepted as an ambassador! You really are someone who represents us. You are ON the journey still, committed to becoming a whole and healthy person, in all areas not just weight. You are articulate, thoughtful, poetic, honest, and can relate to the up and down struggles. A perfect fit. :-) Congratulations!

  3. That is SO cool!

And if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that this process isn’t linear!

  4. That is awesome Jules, though I am not surprised because you are a rock star!!!

  5. Oh yay! Congratulations Ms Ambassador! You are definitely an inspiration, so never forget that!

  6. Congratulations on both fronts! You will not only inspire others, but get inspired yourself. That’s what I always find when I interact with other people in the blog world!
