The “Magical” Click

There is a magical “click” of recognition when the mirror says back

YES! we are who we dream!

Like Cinderella, seeing herself , wearing the beautiful gown, in the mirror for the first time and realizes just how beautiful she is

Like the ugly duckling, seeing his image in a pond for the first time,  and realizes that he is a gorgeous creature

Like the young boy, who puts on his baseball uniform and becomes a baseball player.

That magical “click” when dreams and wishes start to manifest into a tangible reality that we can “see”

Sometimes, we get overwhelmed with life events, so swamped by the needs and expectations of others, and yes, ourselves too, combined with our own feelings of (over) responsibility, that we can feel totally lost.  Lost, wandering through the dark woods of our own lives, as hapless and at risk like Hansel and Gretel.  (taken from Julia Cameron’s  Walking in this World)

Our frame of reference is a shattered mirror screaming back…Where am I?  Who am I? and how the heck did I get here. This isn’t what I dreamed for myself.

and sometimes….we need to look and admit to ourselves…..

Sometimes you have to forget what you feel and remember what you deserve!

One of the exercises I did this past weekend in Walking in this World, was to number a blank piece of paper from 1 to 20.  Writing very quickly, without much contemplation, I completed the sentence…..I WISH…..20 times.

Then, you look at that list and it will quietly suggest some ever so tiny action you can take.

For example:     I wish I had a quiet space just for me.

The action:         Named the extra room, the “quiet” room and give myself a “time out” each day to re-direct myself toward me.

That is in the form of using the elliptical with my music blaring on my IPOD or writing quietly or doing something creative.

That wish list can reveal what that tiny voice inside knows that we can do to take an action …. then the optimism can return.  In Julia’s words,

When we are active on our OWN behalf, we tend to feel less overwhelmed by the needs and wants of others.

In other words, when we forget how we feel about it, remember what we deserve and take small actions toward that….we have filled our well, or our own glass.  It  becomes not half full, or half empty, but we are okay with it at any level.

Now, try it…  What is one thing you wish for?  One thing that you need to remember you deserve.  NOW…what tiny action can you take today to give that to yourself?

  1. Wow… it’s scary that I find it hard to think of something (well, something other than: to be slim). Sad but true.

There are other things but they don’t seem worthy of being the one thing….

  2. Very, very interesting exercise. Will certainly need to give that one a try. I agree with Deborah that trying to list just one, THE one is rather daunting. Funnily, listing 20 sounds easier…. Thanks!! xx
