Trumpets

mushrooms

Hubby brought home a gift for me yesterday to support me in my efforts for healthy eating and wanting to try new things... Mushrooms Problem #1   I don't know what kind they are He was told that they are used for cooking in some higher end restuarants Problem #2  I don't know how to cook them My basic of basic cooking skills have only exposed me to standard button, sliced crimini and last year Portobello. After a few tweets, a couple of facebook posts, and some incredible links given...(thanks roni) I have figured out they are Black Trumpet and King Trumpet mushrooms (even the names bring about thoughts of royalty) So tonight I will be trying my hand at … [Read more...]

Rock & Stroll Update

220px-Beatles_-_Abbey_Road

Time for a Rock & Stroll update! If you are new here or perhaps missed this, the Rock & Stroll is a 6K family fun stroll along our local river with music spattered throughout.  It is a community fundraiser for the prevention of child abuse and neglect with the intention and programs that promote healthy families. This year is the first year that a virtual team has been added.  My team the Let's Rock it Bloggers.  My original intention, besides the priority of fundraising, was to run this 6K.  That has changed.  It's not due to an injury, or lack of resolve.  It is a matter of the priority being different. The priority is me and that means slowing way down, changing … [Read more...]

It Truly is an Attitude!

BootCamp

Boot Camp may be over but the Attitude is kicking BUTT! Welcome to the NEW LOOK and FEEL of Bombshell! Rita over at Blog Genie (and Fitblogger), worked her MAGIC and took Victor's (@mycaricature and @otherdesigns) artistic talents and wove this little home of mine into a creation of blending old and new! It combines the power of WordPress with the old layout that I adored! While the Genie was granting wishes, I made a few changes of my own.  I had a makeover myself.  I am no longer a bleach blonde.  I am moving toward a more natural look.  (more lessons from the garden) It is the power of visualization and THEN letting it go to become the best that it can be. To me, that … [Read more...]

Shameful Garden Lessons

walk a mile 032

So, its time to get over it and just share my garden..well, what there is of it... As I have talked and talked about, not much is growing but the weeds.  I got 1 tiny radish, one cucumber and about 10 beets.  That's it so far. Ah...but yet the lessons....disappointment and then shame.  Ashamed to share it...Embarrassed.... The BIGGEE.....  Being disappointed in what I DIDN'T get instead of Appreciating what I did get... I am realizing that is the struggle.  @MisheMarie and I have exchanged a couple of tweets about being addicted to the struggle. I believe there is a lot of truth to that.  I have realized a lot of things this week, starting my new eating plan.  I got … [Read more...]

Embarrassing Weeds

HO_Weeds_Mexican_Bamboo_04

Slice of Life Saturday.  What is the slice of life today?  Body Image! It's been awhile since I have reflected on what the garden is teaching me.  Wanna know why? I'm embarrassed.  I'm ashamed.  I'm angry with myself. Oh it is overwhelming me and staring me square in the face! I haven't given it enough care, enough time.  The thing that is so gosh darn important to me, the thing that brings me joy and pleasure along with grief and stress, I haven't given enough time. But, alas, that is the lesson here! My embarrassment and shame has stopped me in my tracks for most of my life.  Hold it tightly as a secret! Don't share those things.  Goodness, Julie, what will others … [Read more...]

Garden Lesson: What I take for granted

72cb968efc625246

Oh the precious moment of life!  The tiny hand that grabs your finger.  The wonder and amazement of those tiny, tiny toes!  I LOVE this picture.  Two hands that hold those tiny feet.  A small life, a gift given to us, to protect and teach and LOVE.  My baby girl, the #1 Princess,  will be 26 tomorrow.  We are celebrating her birthday today.  My gift from GOD, is what I always called her.  And while I am not an overly religious person, I still believe in something greater than ourselves, no matter what we "name" it. Life can change so quickly for us.  In an instant, with just one word, one action, one moment, life as we know it, does a 360 degree turn.  And I am NOT just … [Read more...]

Sauteed Baby Artichokes Recipe

sauteed-baby-artichokes

Today, I start to use my blog as a canvas for my garden.  The goal was to try new things and learn to cook.  Well, as my progress of changing the thoughts between my ears moved forward, I saw that , telling myself, I didn't know how to cook, was an excuse.   An excuse because I didn't know.  So I just gave up. As many of you have seen, my garden is a place of learning and MANY lessons for me.  I have been focused a lot on my artichoke plant.  So, excited about the number of buds on the plant and then the resolve to just enjoy the flowers.... Well, guess what I can have my cake and eat it too. This is the recipe I will be trying tonight.  I am going out to cut the rest of the … [Read more...]

Seeds of Success – A Living Dream Board

bean sprout

Have no idea where to even start to explain all the magic and correlation between blogging, my garden, my inner thoughts, and the incredible prize of finally feeling comfortable in my skin!" Well, that is certainly worth repeating:  I Feel Comfortable in My Own Skin. In the past, it was a deeply planted seed that I had to lose weight to get to that point.  I would have to give up my comfort, my joy, my worst enemy and my best friend all at the same time.  It always left me feeling exposed, vulnerable, alone, and uncaring.  Life is incredibly changing for me. My Mantra for the year was I LIVE. The intention was to stop letting my weight hold me back.  Never in my wildest … [Read more...]

Seeds of Encouragement Needed!

worth_cultivating-111x150

This Elvgren print is titled, "Worth Cultivating!"  Very appropriate for my weekend venture.  THE GARDEN! As many of you have figured out, I like to come up with ideas.  Ideas that motivate me and keep those harder things in life, FUN! That childlike wonder that keeps me thinking...The curiosity, the playfulness, the baby steps to changing the whole attitude! One of the special things I did with my garden last year, was I had a get together with some of my dear friends and while they were here, I had each of them plant a seed.  It is part of what made my garden special.  It had thoughts and well wishes from my friends.  I would like to do the same thing this year.  Build my … [Read more...]
