because I am Worth It challenge

noexcuses_challenge

Have you ever had a post so powerful that it stuck with you? It became a little voice inside, from someone you have not met personally, yet know that your paths were destined to cross. I think it happens more often than not in blogosphere. That's what makes blogging and the sense of community it builds so great. That post that lingers for me is from the beloved Carla aka MizFit and her No Excuses Exercise which she wrote back in April 2010...yes 2010! While reading through the comments on her Happy Hanukkah - giveaway post, I saw that Trish had brought of the No Excuses in her comment. That same day, Trish tweeted she was looking for a challenge to start out the … [Read more...]

“Life Itself is the Proper Binge”

cowardlylion

"Life itself is the proper binge."    Julia Child As I take my weekend for reflection and things I need to change with my relationship with food and my body, I am reminded of many moments in my life.  Some good.  Some bad. One of those particular moments was when Julia Child autographed two cookbooks for me. Anytime I see those autographs, I am reminded of the special twinkle in Julia's eyes as she spoke to me and signed my cookbooks with "Bon Appetit" and "the Best" to Julie. It was August of 2009, when I wrote my post Julie-Julia Synchronicity in Motion  after seeing the movie of the same name and starting my adventure of blog writing and changing my relationship with … [Read more...]

The Rule is NOT always GOLDEN

makeoverpinup

I was raised by the Golden Rule - Treat Others As You Wish to Be Treated. I am a modern gal, with a TON of old fashioned values.  While I was born in the 60's, I often long to have life lived in my perspective of what I think the 50's were about.  It was when this country believed in family first, being "neighborly",  the simplicity of white picket fences, baseball and hot dogs, don't air your dirty laundry, work hard, put pride and craftsman ship into what you do, and commit to a job well done and you will be rewarded for your efforts. These days, in my world, I wish for the Ruby Red Slipper Rule - Treat MYSELF as I wish to be treated and those that long for the same thing, will … [Read more...]

Kernel of Truth

cornmaze

This week's Boot Camp exercise - challenge if you will - is kernel of truth You see, there is a story, just like many of us have a story, that has carried on with it lessons of the ages.  This is the story of how the Indians decide what seeds to plant. Long ago the Indians had to hand-carry the water to their crops.  Since this took a lot of time and a lot of energy they knew that the seeds needed to be strong.  But how could they decide that before going to all that work? They would take the seeds and put them in a moistened leather bag and hide it in the darkest corner they could find.  The seeds that sprouted and started to grow, in this dark environment, where the … [Read more...]

Are you a Survivor? 7 emotions

Yesterday, I heard some wise advise about my use of the word survivor.  Words are extremely powerful and often times, we don't understand there full impact and how just the word can affect our progress.  Being a wordsmith in training, I did some research on the word survivor and found this interesting list on Wikipedia of all places. Food for thought:  If I say that I am a survivor, do I continue to try to overcome these emotions, even unconsciously................Read on...........Let me know your reactions.E.B. Motley contends that being faced with a need to survive, there are 7 emotions that arise and must be overcome:Fear- Once one recognizes a survival situation, one of … [Read more...]

7 Stages of Change

Change is the first step toward creating a balanced life.  Change is a fact of life.  The one thing we can always count on is that things will change. We celebrate changes like weddings, births, major events but on the other side of the coin are the difficult changes such as relationship break-ups, loss of a job, or someone dies. Whether your change is welcomed or unexpected, it can provide us with the chance to define our lives differently.  We can move through the fear of change while it gives us a new found strength and insight into our selves.  To help you progress through any change it is good to know that there are 7 stages of … [Read more...]

Harvest Moon Vision Board

Yesterday I wrote about GOALS - Good Orderly Actions leading to Success.  Vision boards are a good way to lay out the foundation in a visual form.  Over at JamieRidlerstudios blog, she posts about the Harvest Moon dreamboard so I thought what a great day to compile my new dreamboard or vision board.Using the 8 categories from my Slice of Life Diet, here is my vision board for Autumn. Autumn is the time of Harvest.  We reap what we have sown during the year.  It is the time for the abundance of all the hard work we have done.   A time for rest, family, and quiet.  The fun of summer is over, the days become shorter, and we can get ready for the … [Read more...]

90 Day Challenge for Change

Next Wednesday, September 30 marks 90 days until the end of the year.  I think a lot about goal setting and ALL the things I want to do.  I realize I need support in my progress.  Another thing I have learned about myself recently, is I like challenges.  It pushes me, motivates me.  I guess I am competitive but with myself.  Team sports were never my thing.  Most recently, the challenges that I am following are like contests.  So I am choosing to use that to my advantage.  Taking parts of it from the movie "Julie and Julia", I am challenging myself by committing to a 90 day change plan.  I intend to post goals … [Read more...]

Autumn is in the air

Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox.  To celebrate and honor the balance, check out a few of these and start your day out with a little inspiration!   A Day of Balance that provides some basic steps of achieving balance, or how about  finding balance which says  Balance, you see, is not a solid state. It’s fluid. You have to keep making small adjustments to keep it. If you remain perfectly stagnant, you fall down. Perhaps that's why we can't find it, it's difficult to find something that is fluid and flowing all the time.  I am just looking to achieve it without always having the excuse of not enough time.  … [Read more...]
